It was thanks to neighbour Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor), Gail’s loved ones discovered she was living it up in Thailand and was unsure on whether she would return home.
Since Gail has been away, David was sentenced to eight months behind bars whilst brother Nick walked away on a suspended sentence after fleecing grandmother Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls).
As the weeks fly by, it’s not yet known when and whether Gail will return to the ITV soap but actress Helen, 68, teased her character’s fate earlier today.
In an interview on Good Morning Britain, host Kate Garraway, 52, said to Helen: “Currently on Corrie, Gail is missing.”
“Could this be the end? What’s going on?” Kate asked the soap star.
Seemingly tentative over what she could say, Helen replied: “Well, umm, I’m not sure what I’m supposed to say.”
However, the actress replied: “But I am still here and I am alive and well. I’m in Thailand. Everybody knows I’m in Thailand.”
With a return on the cards in the near future, will Gail be greeted home with open arms by her family as they seem to have put their differences aside?
Could Gail come back to the cobbles at the time David is released from prison after he was told he would only have to serve four months of his sentence on good behaviour?
Earlier this year, Helen discussed her future on the ITV soap after a number of cast members announced their exits from the show.
Speaking about reports there was animosity on behind the scenes, Helen said on Good Morning Britain: “It’s a fabulous place to work and I work with an amazing family anyway and have been working with them and everyone who joins us seems to join in with us.
“Yes, it is hard work. There’s six episodes a week but the comrade is fantastic and we’re all in it together and I wouldn’t have changed any of it really.”
As one character’s return is on the horizon, another looks set to depart Weatherfield after making a life-chaining discovery.
Emma Brooker (Alexandra Mardell) discovered this week the man who raised her wasn’t her father moments before he passed away.
Next week’s episodes will see Emma attend the funeral of the man she saw as her father, with Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) dropping the bombshell he is her dad.
Emma will get confirmation from her mother Fiona Middleton (Angela Griffin), who makes a brief cameo after 21 years away from the cobbles.
As the news sinks in, Emma makes plans to leave Weatherfield as the residents of Coronation Street are left divided by the revelation.
Packing her bags and heading to the train station, Emma is stopped in her tracks by step-mother Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford).
With a history of conflict between Emma and Tracy, can the latter put her ego to one side and make peace with her husband’s daughter?
