Carla Connor (played by Alison King) has been in turmoil since she found out her beloved brother Aidan (Shayne Ward) left the Underworld Factory to his business partner Alya Nazir (Sair Khan).
However, in next week’s instalment of Coronation Street Alya will return the company to Carla after realising how much the firm and family meant to the late Aidan.
Low in funds to buy back the factory, Carla will receive a surprising proposition from her former partner Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne), who offers to investment in the business.
Carla will be wary of Peter’s inventions for buying into the business as he recently tried to rekindle their romance, but had his advances rejected.
The pair were married in 2013, however they separated when it was revealed Peter was having an affair with this babysitter Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan).
Now, Carla is desperate to be boss again and getting into business will Peter may be her only chance of getting what she wants.
Naturally, romance could blossom between the twosome as they have history, but this could spell trouble for Carla.
Actress Alison said: “I think essentially they just love each other and it is a very kind relationship under the surface.
“No matter what has gone on, even when they say they hate each other they actually know that they don’t.
“That is something in their chemistry, it isn’t something they can do anything about because they have similarities.”
Alison also said they are “better apart” and suggested a relationship between Carla and Peter would be “disastrous”.
The 45-year-old actress explained: “I think they are better apart but I like working with Chris so much that I don’t want that to be the case.
“I think they are great as that on-off relationship, that will they, won’t they.”
Alison went on to tell Belfast Telegraph that Carla fears Peter does not have her best interest at heart when he offers to invest in the underwear factory.
She added: “[Carla] is angry, how dare he try and ‘get into bed with her’ financially and try to be her saviour and think she is just going to roll over just like that.
“She knows it is not ideal going into business with Peter, she knows it would be disastrous because she knows her heart is flipping.
“But she needs him and she hates that she does.”
With her families legacy resting firmly in her hands, will Carla manage to separate business and pleasure and live up to her brother’s expectations.
Or will Carla and Peter finally get back together after all these years?
Coronation Street continues Wednesday on ITV at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
