Coronation Street spoilers: Bethany Platt's secret exposed but fans aren't convinced

In tonight’s double bill the youngster told boyfriend Craig Tinker (played by Colson Smith) that she would not be attending Sinead (Katie McGlynn) and Chesney Brown’s (Sam Aston) wedding as she had to work at the salon.

Bethany (Lucy Fallon) later met up with her mysterious new friend Sam in Roy’s Rolls to discuss their work but they were interrupted by Craig.

When the police officer questioned why she had lied to him, Bethany told him that she had met Sam online as part of her counselling.

After he left Sam asked why she had chosen to keep her new occupation a secret, explaining that her own mother was accepting of her job.

But Bethany insisted she wasn’t going to disclose the details of her job until she was ready.

It has already been teased that Bethany has landed a job as a lap dancer following her shock grooming ordeal last year.

And as her new role was hinted at tonight, fans took to social media to comment on the upcoming storyline.

“This Bethany lap dancing storyline sounds like it’s going to be rubbish #Corrie,” one viewer tweeted.

While another added: “Oh Bethany, I do hope the rumours aren’t true. Surely you’re not working in a lap dancing club? #Corrie.”

A third continued: “So where does Sarah,Gail and David think Bethany is until 3am #corrie.”

“Can’t believe #Corrie going down the strip club route with Bethany working in them. Another long haul of a storyline,” someone else shared.

It comes after soap star Lucy opened up on the storyline, insisting it is important viewers see how Bethany recovers from her grooming ordeal.

“Bethany does get a job at the strip club and for Bethany it’s a thing to say that she has control over what those men can do to her so they can’t touch her and they can’t do anything to her,” she told the Manchester Evening News.

“She takes back control of her own body and the way she views herself.

“In her mind she’s laughing at them as she’s doing it. Obviously a lot of people will be asking, ‘Why is she doing that? That’s ridiculous.’ But it’s the way she is recovering.”
