The second season of Channel 4 school drama Ackley Bridge will end tonight (August 21) on Channel 4.
With series two nearly over, fans of the show are starting to ask whether there will be another season of the show starring Jo Joyner, Paul Nicholls and Girls Aloud’s Kimberley Walsh.
Channel 4 has not yet confirmed whether the show will be returning for another year, however.
But what are the chances of the show coming back? Here’s everything we know so far.
Will there be another series of Ackley Bridge?
Channel 4 has yet to announce whether or not Ackley Bridge will be recommissioned for a third run.
The second series of the show drew in an average of 1.5 million viewers an episode and was regularly one of Channel 4’s top ten programmes according to TV ratings board BARB.
However, this is less than the average viewers of series one, which averaged 2.15 million an episode.
Despite lower ratings, the show is still one of the channel’s most popular dramas.
It regularly beat Channel 4’s Humans, which was once one of Channel 4’s biggest ever dramas.
While season one of Humans hit a peak of 5.47million viewers, season three’s peak was just 1.37million.
This is a viewing figure beaten by all but two of Ackley Bridge’s episodes so far.
In fact, the only drama on Channel 4 that beat it was The Handmaid’s Tale, which Channel 4 bought the rights for from Hulu.
What will happen in Ackley Bridge series 3?
No plot details have emerged about a potential third series of Ackley Bridge yet.
The direction the series takes will surely be dictated by tonight’s season finale.
The finale will air tonight, Tuesday 21 August at 8pm on Channel 4.
The official synopsis for this episode is: “Jordan (played by Samuel Bottomley) fears he hasn’t done enough revision to get into the college that he wants to go to.
“Mandy (Jo Joyner) is offered a lifeline that forces her to question her loyalty to Sadiq (Adil Ray).”
Fans of the show will surely be tuning in to see what cliffhanger the show has up its sleeve for a potential third season.
Season one was released in June 2017 and season two came out the same time a year later.
So hopefully Channel 4 will announce news of a third recommission soon.
Is there a trailer for Ackley Bridge series 3?
